Traumatic Brain Injuries

This is a very new topic as Traumatic Brain Injuries are recently more popular. They have always existed, but more doctors are diagnosing patients with Traumatic Brain Injuries today. A TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) happens when the brain crashes against the skull. There are three severity types of a Traumatic Brain Injury ranging from mild, moderate, and severe.

Mild Traumatic Brain Injury – Disorientation, headaches, confusion, and memory loss can occur. These injuries are sometimes called concussions

Moderate Traumatic Brain Injury – Loss of consciousness that is longer than 20 minutes but no longer than 60 minutes. This involves brain swelling and bleeding. This is when there can be permanent brain damage.

Severe Traumatic Brain Injury – Loss of consciousness that lasts more than six hours. This is when patients get into a coma and cannot wake up.Ā

Many of these injuries happen in sports or falls, but most of the time, a traumatic brain injury is caused by car accidents and motorcycle accidents.

This surgery repairs a tear of the rotator cuff in your shoulder. The rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that holds the head of the humerus in the shoulder socket.

This arthroscopic procedure is performed to repair a tear of the biceps tendon at the point where it connects to the labrum. This is known as a Superior Labrum Anterior-Posterior (SLAP) tear.

Orthopedic Conditions We Treat

SLAP Tear

This tear affects the labrum which is the cartilage on the rim of the shoulderā€™s socket. Sometimes the biceps tendon may also be damaged when the superior labrum anterior and posterior is damaged.

Meniscal Tears

This is a torn cartilage that is in the knee. I can be due to the normal aging process. When you hear a knee pop that may be a meniscus tear, which will start to hurt and swell.

Tendon Tears

This happens when tissues that connect the muscle to the bones tear. A common tendon tear can be a patellar tear.

Can happen over time due to repeated motion or can happen due to an acute injury such as a car accident. A rotator cuff tear happens when there is a tear in the muscle that surrounds the shoulder joint.
